Mercy Foundation Provides Loan
Here is Cesilen’s StoryTake a trip to Bogu, Cebu, Philippines, and you will likely come across a small general store that is run by Cesilen. This married mother of four has been working hard to support her family. This is because she has three children that are currently in school, and she dreams of having the means to send them to college. She gets the bulk of her income from a general store that she runs, selling everything from soft drinks to bathroom products. In an effort to ensure that she can continue to support her family as she desires, she needs to purchase additional stock for sale in her store. For this reason, she recently applied for a loan through the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation. The 11,000 PHP that she requested would be used to buy more soft drinks, toothpaste, bath soap, milk, juice, hair conditioners, noodles and more for her general store. Her overall intention is to save a good amount, so that she can afford to pay for college education for her children.
Negros Women for Tomorrow FoundationHer loan has been locally overseen by the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF), a non-governmental organization and Kiva partner. This organization combines access to financial services with development services. Thus, this ensures that all its members have a winning chance of becoming self-reliant. There are other services one can benefit from as well with NWTF. Such services include training courses, business workshops, micro-insurance services, and even scholarships for children from low-income families. Through Kiva’s lending platform and the NWTF, the Mercy Foundation has chosen to offer full funding for Cesilen’s $250 loan. There are so many lives being transformed daily through these organizations. They give low-income earners a chance to escape poverty and hardship. All these organizations have similar goals. Kiva brings social entrepreneurs such as the Mercy Foundation under one umbrella. Consequently, organizations such as the NWTF help to distribute the donated funds to needy individuals on the ground. Anyone can join the Kiva platform. And you should too if you wish to transform the lives of those in need in the world. Take some time to visit www.kiva.org, where you will find a long list of entrepreneurs that are looking for funding. Notes
